San Miguel Beer clinched the top spot after beating Meralco, 113-104, in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday.
June Mar Fajardo led the way for the Beermen with a double-double game of 24 points and 15 rebounds as they won their ninth straight game.
Head coach Leo Austria said he wanted his boys to stay competitive as they prepare for the playoffs.
"A lot of people were thinking that this is a non-bearing game and we will just relax but we respect the game and our opponents,” Austria said.
“We have to be consistent as our preparation going to the quarterfinals."
CJ Perez also had 24 points for San Miguel while Don Trollano scored 21 points.
CJ Cansino led the Bolts with 21 points as they dropped to a 6-5 slate.
