Organizers of the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics have pledged that the upcoming Games will offer affordable ticket options, including at least one million tickets priced at $28, as preparations continue less than three years before the opening ceremony.
According to a report by CNN, LA28 officials announced on Monday that fans will be able to register for Olympic tickets beginning January 14, 2026. Registered fans will enter a random draw for the opportunity to purchase tickets later that year.
LA28 said the $28 price point will be available across all sports and will not be limited to a small number of seats or restricted viewing areas.
“Every sport starts at $28 and that’s not just lip service to a couple tickets in the corner of some venue, but a meaningful number of tickets,” Allison Katz-Mayfield, LA28’s senior vice president for Games delivery revenue, said, as quoted by Reuters and cited by CNN.
“We’re looking at at least a million tickets at $28 and we’ve got about a third of our tickets under $100,” she added.
The announcement comes as global sports fans voice frustration over the rising cost of attending major international events, particularly following criticism of ticket prices for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
CNN noted that FIFA recently launched the third phase of ticket sales for next year’s World Cup, with some fans discovering that the cheapest seats for the final exceeded $4,000. FIFA later said it received five million ticket requests within 24 hours and stated that revenues would be reinvested into football development.
Despite FIFA’s assurances, many fans have remained skeptical after earlier promises of affordability, prompting Olympic observers to take a cautious approach while waiting for LA28 to release a full and detailed price list.
CNN Sports reported that it reached out to LA28 to ask when a complete ticket pricing breakdown would be released, but had not received a response as of publication.
Los Angeles will host the Summer Olympics for the third time, having previously staged the Games in 1932 and 1984. The 2028 edition will use venues spread across the city and surrounding areas.
The LA 2028 Olympic Games are scheduled to open on 14 July 2028 and conclude on 30 July 2028. The Paralympic Games will follow, running from 15 August to 27 August 2028.
