Abra nears MPBL crown

Abra bested Quezon Province, 62-58, to post a 2-0 lead in the 747. LIVE presents Manny Pacquiao Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League 2025 Season National Finals at the Gov. Andres B. Bernos Memorial Gym in Bangued, Abra on Saturday.

Again given a tough fight by the Huskers, the North Division champion Weavers banked on Dave Ildefonso, Jason Brickman and John Uduba in the last quarter to move within a win away from sweeping the best-of-five series.

Abra pulled off a great escape to clinch Game One, 81-80, in overtime on Thursday.

Ildefonso, the Most Valuable Player race pacesetter, posted 14 points, 13 rebounds and two assists to clinch the Best Player honors. 

Brickman wound up 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Uduba contributed eight points and seven rebounds for the Weavers, who also drew eight points and two assists from Marwin Taywan, and seven points plus three rebounds from Ryan Batino.

Quezon, the South Division champion, got 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals from Ljay Gonzales, nine points, four rebounds and two assists from Alfrancis Tamsi, and eight points each from Ximone Sandagon and Christian Pagaran.

The Weavers extended their record winning streak to 35, including eight in the playoffs.

Pagaran drove in to level the count at 43, but Batino made three of four free throws and Taywan knocked in a triple to push Abra in front, 48-43, after the third quarter.
