Multiple people were shot Saturday at Brown University, with the suspect still at large, the Ivy League school said. Students were ordered to shelter in place.
Brown reported an active shooter near Barus and Holley Engineering around 4:22 p.m. local time and urged students to lock doors, silence phones, and stay hidden. The university said it could not confirm the victims’ conditions.
Law enforcement and first responders swarmed the campus, and local news reports showed clothing and blood on the sidewalks. The FBI is on the scene.
President Donald Trump said he had been briefed and offered prayers for the victims and their families.
The university, in Providence, Rhode Island, has about 11,000 students. The shooting is the latest in a series of attacks at U.S. schools amid ongoing debates over gun access.
