The National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) celebrated its 92nd founding anniversary Wednesday, highlighting the intersection of arts and science at the Sheraton Manila Hotel, Pasay City.

Themed “Recognizing the Champions of Progress: Merging Artistic Expression and Scientific Excellence,” the event featured performances representing the country’s diverse regions, including traditional dances from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, musical performances, and spoken word presentations. Interactive exhibits and audio-visual presentations also showcased research in creative and imaginative formats.

The council also honored outstanding Filipino researchers and NRCP members through the Gabay Awards, recognizing contributions in fields such as medical sciences, engineering, industrial research, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical sciences, biological sciences, and social sciences.

Service awards were also presented to Lanie Manalo, who has served 40 years in the Research Information and Dissemination Division, and Christine Bandong, who marked 10 years in the Research Development and Management Division.

Among the attendees were National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario and National Commission for Culture and the Arts Chair Victorino Mapa Manalo. The celebration was also attended by NRCP member-researchers, scientists, engineers, and artists.

Founded on 8 December 1933 and attached to the Department of Science and Technology, the NRCP was established to foster research in the country and promote science and technology for public benefit through grants, expert engagement, policy formulation, and collaborative initiatives.
