Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has directed police commanders nationwide to ramp up community engagement in efforts to recover loose firearms.
The call comes after a ceremonial turnover at Camp Crame in Quezon City on 9 December, where 25 firearms and explosive materials were surrendered to the PNP.
The items handed over included four 7.62 M14 rifles, one 5.56 Colt M4 rifle, four .30 High-Performance Rifles, three .45 Grease Submachine Guns, one 9mm SIG M10 Submachine Gun, and 12 12-gauge shotguns. Ammunition for various calibers, magazines, 12 rounds of 40mm grenade launcher ammo, and three fragmentation hand grenades were also turned in.
