BTS leader Kim Namjoon (RM) has sparked intense discussion among fans after candidly revealing that the group had seriously considered disbanding during their hiatus. His remarks, made during a Weverse Live broadcast on 6 December, shed light on the immense pressures the seven-member K-pop sensation has faced in recent years.
During the livestream, RM admitted, “I have wondered thousands of times whether BTS should disband or go on hiatus,” he said, reflecting on the group’s struggles ahead of their highly anticipated 2026 comeback.
He added, “I want to perform right away, but preparing for it requires so much, and the personal pressure is huge.”
RM acknowledged that the group’s long break — largely due to mandatory military service — had left him questioning their future.
BTS has not performed as a full group since their October 2022 concert, marking more than three years apart allkpop.
Despite these doubts, RM emphasized that BTS’s bond and their connection with fans ultimately prevented disbandment:
“We considered disbanding, but love and respect for each other and for ARMY kept us going,” RM explained.He noted that while the pressures of fame and expectations weighed heavily, the group’s shared commitment to their artistry and fandom gave them strength.
