SC justice unveils 2026 Bar Exams requirements

Supreme Court (SC) Justice Samuel Gaerlan, chair of the 2026 Bar Examinations, has detailed the requirements and process for next year’s test, placing strong priority on discipline as a foundational requirement for aspiring lawyers.

In Bar Bulletin No. 2, Gaerlan acknowledged that the application process may seem tedious but assured applicants that this preparation is essential for the legal profession.

“Discipline is doing what must be done, even when it is inconvenient, even when it is uncomfortable,” Gaerlan said.

“It is tempting to postpone what feels burdensome, to prioritize comfort over duty. Resist that temptation. The legal profession you seek will demand far more,” he added.

Gaerlan stressed that future lawyers’ actions affect every Filipino who relies on them for protection.

“They deserve lawyers who are thorough and punctual. They deserve lawyers who understand that every detail matters — because in law, every detail can mean the difference between justice and injustice,” Gaerlan said.

The justice advised aspirants to approach the Bar Exams with the same rigor they would handle a case.

“Meet every deadline. Double-check every document. Submit everything with precision and care.” He asserted that their success should come through “discipline and dedication, not convenience or complacency,” he said.

Gaerlan also reminded examinees to prioritize rest and reconnection during the upcoming holiday season to gain strength and remember the purpose behind their hard work.

“This balance between rest and resolve is what it truly means to #StrivewithHopeandGrit,” said Gaerlan.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the 2026 Bar Examinations for 6, 9 and 13 September 2026.
