Family togetherness, teamwork and inclusivity amid diversity — these are just some of the golden values that kids and kids-at-heart could pick up from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ latest offering, Zootopia 2, now showing in cinemas nationwide and available in IMAX, 4DX and Screen X.
In its opening day last week, Zootopia 2 made its highest opening day for an American film in China with $34 million. As of last weekend, the Chinese market reportedly contributed an additional $104 million, breaking the record set by Avengers: Endgame for the biggest single-day box office sales.
Zootopia 2 has so far been released in 17 countries, with China as the leading market with $94.2 million, followed by South Korea ($4.6 million), France ($4.5 million), Mexico ($3.7 million) and Germany ($2.8 million).
If current trends continue, Zootopia 2 has been predicted to surpass the $525 million-plus global opening weekend mark, positioning it to beat previous blockbuster franchise openings set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 ($483 million), Captain Marvel ($456 million) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($450 million).
Helmed by directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard, Zootopia 2 is an expansion of the vibrant city with new friends, foes and fun adventures.
Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman lead the star-studded cast as they reprise their roles as the beloved duo of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, with Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan joining the ensemble as the voice of the new character, Gary de’Snake.
In Zootopia 2, Hopps and Wilde find themselves unraveling a mystery alongside a snake called Gary De’Snake, who arrives in Zootopia and turns the animal metropolis upside down.
