Ayala-backed firms Globe Telecom, Inc. and the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) are testing a new verification technology that could spare consumers from typing one-time passwords while making digital banking safer and easier.
In a joint statement on Tuesday, the companies said they launched a Proof of Concept (POC) for Silent Network Authentication (SNA), a system that verifies a user’s identity in real time through the mobile network.
The POC has passed technical validation, enabling BPI’s test app to tap directly into Globe’s Network Exposure Platform for real-time identity checks.
The joint test is seen to cut scams linked to SMS codes by confirming a customer’s identity automatically, eliminating manual steps.
“Security and simplicity should always go together,” said KD Dizon, Vice President and Head of Globe Business. “Our collaboration with BPI allows us to validate Silent Network Authentication in real-world banking environments, giving Filipinos the confidence to transact safely.”
Meanwhile, BPI Chief Technology Officer Alex Seminiano said: “At BPI, protecting our clients is central to how we design digital experiences. We constantly seek to uphold the integrity of every customer transaction.
“Through this POC, we are testing an advanced authentication approach that fortifies security while staying completely frictionless. This shows our commitment to ensuring clients are at the center of what we do,” he added.
BPI said the initiative aligns with its efforts to adopt technologies that secure every transaction, while Globe is also working with other banks and e-commerce companies to broaden the use of network-based authentication.
