Tap and go with Maya

Filipinos can now pay in stores without pulling out a physical credit card, or even opening a QR code app, as Maya rolled out Google Pay in the Philippines for its Maya Credit card holders.

The integration allows users to add their Maya Credit card to the Google Wallet app and use their Android smartphone or smartwatch to pay at any physical terminal that accepts card transactions. Once added, the device becomes a fully functioning payment card that works through near-field communication (NFC), enabling consumers to “just tap and go” at checkout counters, no QR scan and no SMS confirmation needed.

The launch signals a new phase in the competition for digital payments in the country. Maya moves the experience from scanning static or dynamic QR codes (which the company also supports) to simply tapping a phone, bringing the Philippines closer to the seamless payment culture seen in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
