The Intramuros Administration (IA) officially launched the “Christmas in the Walls 2025” program at Fort Santiago last 28 November, spreading holiday cheer throughout the historic walled city.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco delivered the keynote address, highlighting the creativity and dedication of the Filipino people in overcoming challenges.
“These walls, weathered yet unbowed, bear witness to everything our nation has endured, and everything we are still capable of achieving,” Frasco said. She also stressed the role of the Department of Tourism (DoT) in providing livelihood and hope across the country.
The opening event was attended by several dignitaries, including First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, Intramuros Administrator Atty. Joan Padilla, DoT Culture and Arts of Manila OIC-director Cristal Bagatsing, Nayong Pilipino Foundation executive director Mary Grace Ac-ac, and National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) chairperson Victorino Mapa Manalo.
The program featured two festive competitions. In the Intramuros Lantern Parade, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila took first place, followed by Barangay 655 in second, and Colegio de San Juan de Letran in third.
It also held the “Carols in the Walls: School Choir Competition,” with participation from groups like the Emilio Aguinaldo College Manila Chorale, the PLM Chorale, and the PUP Bagong Himig Serenata.
