No casualties were reported in the Itogon landslide after all small-scale miners working in the area were confirmed safe and accounted for, easing fears among families and the municipal government.
The landslide occurred on 27 November 2025 at Camp 1, Acupan, Virac, Itogon, Benguet.
Initial reports said 30 pocket miners were able to exit the tunnels immediately, while 34 others were believed to be trapped underground. The number later increased as accounting continued.
By 3:00 p.m. on the same day, the previously missing miners managed to get out safely. Following verification by the Itogon Incident Management Team (IMT) and confirmation by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), authorities stated that all 138 miners working in the area were accounted for.
Response teams were deployed to secure the site, assess structural risks, and ensure that no individuals remained in danger. The soil erosion destroyed three shanties and two electric posts, but there were no reported injuries.
Itogon Mayor Bernard S. Waclin personally commended the miners for their alertness and swift response. He reminded the mining community to prioritize safety, follow protocols, and remain vigilant especially during extreme weather conditions.
