Through the trees and through the rain,
I run from time unfolding in vain.
Eager to escape the hold of the past,
And jump to the embrace of the future at last.
All my footsteps land on orange fall,
And summer air responds to winter's call.
With each step ⸺ grapes prune, petals crisp.
Cicadas chirping, notes fading to wisps.
I run like a trailblazer, not knowing how it ends,
Eager to change history with each rule I bend.
I fear I cannot stop; I'm afraid I'm losing time,
But the time I will and have lost⸺was it truly mine?
Each day moves in an inch, a petty pace.
Routine takes hold 'til novelty has no place.
Working tirelessly to leave behind my mark,
Until I'm a distant star, alone in the dark.
Perhaps this is all there is ⸺ a constant reminder
To look at the mundane and still find wonder;
To live without having to fight and earn my place;
To not do something to be worthy of this space.
Breathe and remember, child of this world⸺
Your life is yours to unmask and unfurl.
Your sole purpose is to live and to be.
You do not need to earn the right to be free.
