A criminal complaint was filed by a 21-year-old woman alleging she was raped by a prominent Singaporean businessman five years ago when she was 16 years old.
In her complaint-affidavit submitted to Manila prosecutors, the victim accused a president of a Singaporean company of sexual assault at the Pan Pacific Hotels Group in Malate, Manila on 27 January 2020.
According to the complainant, the incident occurred during a birthday party attended by the victim's mother. The man asked her to accompany him to a connecting room to see a gift he had brought for her mother.
The victim said that when she declined to enter the bedroom, the businessman became insistent and eventually pushed her inside. She reported that he locked the door, restrained her on a bed, and proceeded with sexual intercourse despite her repeated objections.
A witness provided a supporting affidavit stating that he saw the victim return from the room "visibly distressed, crying and trembling."
The witness said the victim told him at the time that the president of the company had sexually assaulted her.
Both witness and the victim were 16 years old at the time of the incident.
The victim explained the delay in filing the complaint by noting their youth and limited understanding of legal processes at the time.
The victim said that her mother attempted to contact her assaulter the following day after the assault but found his phone unavailable. They later learned he had returned to Singapore.
The complaint has been forwarded to the Office of the City Prosecutor for review. The accused could not be reached for comment.
