The iconic, castle-like home of Chocolate Lover Inc. in Cubao, a beloved institution for bakers and culinary students, is preparing to close its doors next month, bringing an end to 36 years of operation.
Owner and entrepreneur Annie Carmona-Lim, fondly known as the “Chocolate Queen,” confirmed the bittersweet news in an emotional social media post last 18 November, announcing that the last day of business will be 27 December 2025.
Lim held back tears as she explained the reason for the closure: none of her children wish to inherit the business.
“My children no longer want to take over. They are settled in other countries,” Lim said. “As for me, I will be taking care of my grandchildren because I am old now and it’s difficult for me to travel around.”
The store, which became a landmark on P. Tuazon Street due to its whimsical, castle-like facade, has been a reliable source for baking supplies, from fast-moving items like chocolate and buttercream to walnuts, for decades.
“We will continue selling until those days,” Lim assured customers. “We would never abandon our business customers who need us this Christmas. The dedication of Chocolate Lover to those who have businesses, our support will remain the same. It’s only a little more than a month left, so I also want to wish you all a Merry Christmas.”
The closure marks the end of a long journey that began in 1989. After recovering from cancer, Lim founded Chocolate Lover Inc. with an initial capital of P6,000.
As the business grew, she built the unforgettable exterior that long captivated visitors curious about the baking supplies store inside.
Lim admitted the decision to close was incredibly difficult.
“I have been crying about this for three years because I truly can’t let go; this is my baby,” she confessed. “But I need to say goodbye now. Thank you very much.”
Lim also revealed that the property is currently for sale. If no buyer is found by the closing date, the family plans to rent the building out in the meantime. She encouraged followers to check the store’s social media for further updates “if you also want to get the latest gossip from us.”
“And so, goodbye after 36 years, we are saying goodbye,” she said.
