ILOILO CITY — The Visayan bloc in the House of Representatives has gone all in behind President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., declaring full support for his administration’s widening anti-corruption campaign and urging the nation to close ranks behind reforms that “restore trust” in government.
In a strongly worded statement issued Tuesday, the bloc — composed of nearly 40 lawmakers from the Visayas — said Marcos’ crackdown on irregularities within his own bureaucracy demands unity, not political noise.
“Good governance is not a partisan project; it is a moral obligation,” the group said. “We stand with the President because we stand with every Filipino who deserves honesty, transparency, and accountability in public service.”
The bloc also warned colleagues against fueling distraction and “political theatrics,” saying the moment calls for discipline and collective resolve.
Lone District Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, who convened the bloc after the House leadership overhaul in September, said Marcos’ willingness to probe his own administration is “unlike anything past presidents have done.”
“For him to do that shows sincerity in solving, eliminating, eradicating corruption,” Benitez said Wednesday at the Terra Madre Asia and Pacific event here.
Benitez earlier said the bloc aims to consolidate the Visayas’ voice in Congress and push for stronger resource allocation for the region — a goal the lawmakers say must go hand in hand with clean and credible governance.
