GCash is expanding its digital footprint as it begins enabling Google Pay for millions of users in the Philippines. The feature, now accessible to select customers, will be available to more people soon and is expected to make cashless transactions faster and more convenient.
The rollout follows the official introduction of Google Pay in the country, allowing GCash, the Philippines’ largest cashless ecosystem, to work seamlessly with Google’s secure and widely adopted payment platform. This gives users the option to link their GCash wallets to Google Pay and use it for secure in-store or online payments.
Users who want to activate the feature can start by downloading the Google Wallet App from the Google Play Store. After opening the GCash app, they can tap their Profile, go to My Linked Accounts, and choose Google Pay. The process requires reviewing the information shown on screen, agreeing to bind the account, and completing biometric verification. A prompt then directs users to the Google Pay app where they need to sign in.
The connection between GCash and Google Pay combines GCash’s familiarity among Filipino consumers with the global reach of Google Pay. With GCash set as a fund source, transactions no longer require manual card details and users avoid storing or sharing card numbers with merchants, which adds another layer of security.
