OTS deploys new full-body scanners to boost airport security nationwide

The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) received 10 new full-body scanners with integrated shoe scanners as part of efforts to modernize nationwide airport security.

The scanners, which are undergoing evaluation by the OTS Technical Working Group, utilize millimeter wave technology to detect metallic and non-metallic items, including objects hidden in footwear.

The system also eliminates the need to remove footwear during screening.

Seven units have been deployed to airports in Bicol, Bacolod, General Santos City, Tacloban, Kalibo, Laoag, and at Maharlika Hall in Pasay.

OTS said on Wednesday that the scanners are now fully operational after completing installation this November.

The remaining units are scheduled for installation in Cotabato, Zamboanga, and Laguindingan.
