Ilocos Norte unveils innovation resilience

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — The 2025 National Science, Technology and Innovation Week (NSTW) has transformed Ilocos Norte into the country’s northern hub for scientific discovery, showcasing how research and innovation can drive sustainable community development.

Established in 1982, the NSTW this year carries the theme, “Siyensya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan,” underscoring the role of innovation in building a resilient future for Filipinos.

The celebration, which runs from 18 to 21 November, is anchored on the sub-theme, “Building Smart and Sustainable Communities,” stressing the application of science in agriculture, local governance, disaster resilience and livelihood enhancement.

At the Laoag City Hall Auditorium, the exhibit focused on two pillars: Wealth Creation and Wealth Protection. Featured technologies included tools to strengthen micro, small and medium enterprises and digital solutions for disaster risk reduction, such as flood monitoring systems and early warning technologies.

The Department of Science and Technology also launched its Water Compendium, detailing its water management work.

Agriculture, a key sector in Ilocos Norte, was highlighted through the presentation of LGU partners implementing SARAI technologies — digital tools for crop monitoring, climate analytics and science-based farming decisions.

Furthermore, the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology Forum showcased how science and technology interventions have improved livelihoods and enhanced disaster preparedness at the grassroots level.
