The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has high hopes for the national team as the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup gets going Thursday at the Philsports Complex in Pasig.
PFF president John Gutierrez said the Filipina5’s two-week camp in Spain helped them get ready as they face the best teams in the world.
The Philippines’ first assignment will be Poland on 21 November.
“The team came from a successful camp in Spain, the world’s top futsal league hub. They played four friendlies and arrived home on 12 November,” Gutierrez said during the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum on Tuesday.
“They also had a strong friendly vs Canada. The team is ready.”
International Football Federation (FIFA) president Gianni Infantino is expected to grace the opening ceremonies of the Futsal Women’s World Cup.
“This was just made official that the FIFA President himself Gianni Infantino will be gracing the event. We’re very much hoping that His Excellency, president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos will also have the time to see and join us for this world-class event,” Guttierez said.
“We’re ready. One thing is for sure, we belong here. We’re not going out there just to be able to compete. We’re going out there to win.”
The Philippines is in a tough spot as it is sorted in Group A along with Poland, Argentina and Morocco.
The Filipina5 will face the Moroccans on Monday, 24 November before taking on Argentina on 27 November.
