GMA Public Affairs continues to cement its reputation as a world-class storyteller with another major international victory. The Atom Araullo Specials: POGOLAND was hailed Best Documentary in the Domestic Affairs category at the 2025 Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) Awards in London, a recognition that affirms the program’s fearless investigative journalism and powerful impact.

The win follows the documentary’s Gold Medal finish at the 2025 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards earlier this year, reinforcing its status as one of the year’s most important pieces of reportage.

Anchored by journalist and documentarist Atom Araullo, POGOLANDpeeled back the layers of the Philippine offshore gaming industry to reveal a darker, more disturbing reality. What many perceived as a booming online gaming enterprise was actually hiding a network of scam operations, human trafficking schemes, and brutal exploitation. The documentary brought viewers inside the compounds where workers—Filipino and foreign—were imprisoned, coerced, and subjected to torture. Through haunting testimonies and on-ground operations with authorities, the episode exposed the extent of organized criminal activity thriving in plain sight. Its revelations became part of the national conversation around offshore gaming, contributing to the eventual shutdown of POGOs in the country.

The win comes at a significant milestone in Atom Araullo’s career, as he renewed his exclusive contract with GMA Network this November. Reflecting on his seven years as a Kapuso, he emphasized the responsibility that comes with the craft. “This work is a privilege,” he shared. “The AIB recognition belongs to our entire team and to the communities who trust us with their stories. We’ll keep pushing for journalism that is rigorous, compassionate, and fearless.” His words echo the guiding philosophy behind The Atom Araullo Specials, a program known for its immersive storytelling and unflinching pursuit of truth.

For GMA Public Affairs, POGOLAND’s success in London is more than an accolade—it is a validation of its mission. The award underscores the network’s commitment to producing documentaries that resonate across borders, spark global conversation, and confront difficult realities with sensitivity and courage. It is a reminder that in an era of misinformation, stories grounded in truth remain indispensable. As GMA Public Affairs continues to reach international audiences, it carries with it a promise: to deliver mga kwentong tumatatak sa buong mundo—stories that matter, stories that endure.
