Support continued to reach Negros Occidental communities recovering from the disruption caused by typhoon “Tino,” with Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s Malasakit Team providing assistance to 250 affected families in La Castellana last Monday.
The relief activity, coordinated locally with Vice Mayor Mhai Mangilimutan, offered food packs to families still coping with the storm’s aftermath. This local partnership was part of a series of relief operations being conducted by Go’s team nationwide.
Go stressed that the goal of these efforts is to alleviate immediate pressures on families as they regain stability.
“As your Mr. Malasakit, whatever challenge we face in the coming days, I will continue to serve you all because service is my vice, and I believe that service to the people is service to God,” Go said, framing the relief effort as part of a sustained commitment to communities.
The senator, who is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, also highlighted the need for accessible healthcare alongside disaster response. Malasakit Centers are one-stop shops designed to help indigent patients reduce their hospital costs.
“During times of calamity, it becomes clearer how important accessible and proper health facilities are. Our countrymen should immediately have a place to turn to,” he pointed out.
Go cited that 167 Malasakit Centers are currently operational across the country, having already provided aid to more than 17 million Filipinos, according to the Department of Health.
