Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director general Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. turned over donations from the agency’s officers and employees to Caridad G. Molo, assistant department head II of the Muntinlupa City Social Services Department, to assist victims of Typhoon “Uwan.”
Catapang said the gesture underscores the need for compassion and unity in times of crisis.
Instead of marking the agency’s founding anniversary with festivities, he said BuCor dedicated the occasion to reflection, prayer and a renewed commitment to public service.
He stressed that public servants must embody empathy, particularly when the nation is confronted with hardship.
Catapang also announced that eligible BuCor officials and employees nationwide have received their anniversary bonuses amounting to P3,000 each.
The benefit is granted under Administrative Order 263, issued in 1996 by then Executive Secretary Ruben D. Torres, which authorizes national government agencies, government-owned and -controlled corporations and government financial institutions to give anniversary bonuses.
BuCor said it continues to observe the tradition while ensuring that acts of service remain a priority in its mandate.
