Generics Awareness Month was recently celebrated in Cainta, bringing together healthcare leaders, advocates and local residents to highlight the importance of affordable and effective medicines.
The event, held under the theme “Ginhawang Generics, Ramdam ng Bawat Pilipino,” emphasized the role of generic medicines in everyday healthcare. Attendees were reminded that generics meet the same rigorous standards as branded medicines, offering safe, effective and accessible treatment for all.
In a special video message, the Department of Health reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to quality medicines through initiatives such as the Generics Act of 1988 and the Cheaper Medicines Act of 2008. The agency encouraged patients to ask their healthcare providers about generic alternatives, stressing that informed choices strengthen communities and support public health.
The event also offered free health consultations and basic screenings to residents, including blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar and cholesterol testing and temperature checks. These services provided a practical way for the community to experience the benefits of accessible healthcare.
By combining awareness with direct support, the celebration reinforced a key message: quality healthcare should be within reach of every Filipino, and access to affordable medicines is a shared responsibility that strengthens the health of the entire community.
