MSO centennial concert to feature Beethoven and Cayabyab

Stephanie Mayo

The Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will mark its 100th anniversary with a special concert on 22 January 2026, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati. This event will open the orchestra’s centennial season with a program honoring its rich history and looking ahead to the future.

The concert will open with Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No. 3, the same piece performed at the MSO’s inaugural concert a century ago. Singaporean guest conductor Darrel Ang will lead the orchestra in this powerful work. Also on the program will be Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major, known as the “Emperor Concerto,” featuring Chinese pianist Muyu Liu.

The second half will feature works by Philippine National Artist Ryan Cayabyab. The MSO and the Philippine Madrigal Singers, conducted by Mark Anthony Carpio, will perform Cayabyab’s Misa 2000 and Te Deum, blending classical and Filipino musical traditions in a tribute.

The centennial season will continue through 2026 and early 2027 with concerts celebrating Filipino talent and musical heritage, including performances of "The Sleeping Beauty" and showcases of rising stars.

Tickets will be available on Ticketworld. Follow the Manila Symphony Orchestra on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or visit www.manilasymphony.com for updates.
