ILOILO CITY — Tragedy struck Barangay Tabugon on the morning of 10 November as an 80-year-old woman, known only as alias Lucy, died while being treated in hospital after a freak accident.
The elderly victim was resting at the barangay waiting shed when the rim of an Isuzu truck carrying live chickens suddenly exploded, striking her and causing fatal injuries.
According to Police Captain Alwin Salmon, chief of the Dingle Municipal Police Station, the truck had departed from Dueñas, Iloilo, bound for Pototan to deliver its cargo. The driver, identified as Rey from Janiuay, survived and was released after settling matters with the victim’s family.
Salmon confirmed that alias Lucy sustained severe lacerations that proved fatal, marking a tragic end to what should have been an ordinary morning in the barangay.
