Malacañang on Tuesday confirmed that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has received for validation a list circulating online that names several government officials and former military generals allegedly involved in a supposed destabilization plot against the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The list was first shared on social media by a columnist, who claimed that Vice President Sara Duterte, Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte, and former Ilocos Sur governor “Chavit” Singson were among those allegedly funding the plot.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the AFP is reviewing the claims.
“According to the AFP, in cases like this — although it comes from social media — it is being forwarded to their intelligence community,” Castro told reporters in English and Filipino.
She said that while freedom of expression is recognized, the nature of such allegations requires careful assessment.
“The AFP said this is being monitored. It really needs to be investigated,” she added.
So far, authorities have not confirmed whether the individuals named in the list have violated any law, Castro said.
Among those tagged in the online post was Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who immediately and categorically denied any participation in efforts to destabilize the government.
“I strongly deny the baseless claim linking me to supposed destabilization efforts against the government,” Magalong wrote on his official Facebook page. “Such rumors are false, misleading, and harmful to the trust and unity our nation needs today.”
