Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile has been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of an undisclosed hospital due to pneumonia, according to Senator Jinggoy Estrada.

Speaking before colleagues in the Senate, Estrada described Enrile’s condition as having “slim chances of surviving,” citing information from a reliable source.

“Mr. President, I have just received a very, very sad information that our former colleague, former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, is currently in the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital suffering from pneumonia. And I heard from a reliable source, a very, very reliable source, that he has slim chances of surviving,” Estrada said.

He then urged the Senate to join in a moment of prayer for the ailing statesman, led by Senator Joel Villanueva.

Enrile, 101, is one of the Philippines’ longest-serving politicians, having held key positions including Senate President and Senate Majority Leader. He has been a prominent figure in the country’s political landscape for decades.

Colleagues and former colleagues have expressed concern over his condition, with many urging prayers and support for Enrile and his family during this critical time.

No further details regarding his hospitalization have been released as of this writing.
