#UwanPH knocks out power for 42,000 Meralco customers

Super Typhoon #UwanPH has cut electricity to 42,000 Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) customers, with Cavite taking the hardest hit as strong winds and torrential rain disrupted power service across Southern Luzon.

In a power situation update this evening, the company said the affected customers span parts of Cavite, Quezon, Bulacan, Laguna, Metro Manila, Rizal, and Batangas.

The country’s largest power distributor said its crews and personnel are on full alert as Uwan continues to lash its franchise area.

Meralco said it carried out line inspections, tree trimming, and secured flood-prone facilities, and coordinated with billboard operators and local government units to help maintain the stability of the distribution system.

To accelerate response, the company also pre-positioned mobile generator sets, portable floodlights, vehicles, and rescue boats for rapid deployment.

Meralco said its field teams are ready to restore power as soon as weather conditions permit, underscoring that restoration efforts are dependent on safety clearance amid the typhoon.

“Meralco’s crews and personnel are ready to restore the service as soon as weather conditions permit. The company is also working closely with national and local authorities to prioritize the continuous supply of electricity to critical establishments including hospitals, transportation systems, water pumping stations, and government offices,” Meralco said.

Meralco urged the public to remain vigilant and to observe electrical safety practices while strong winds and flooding persist across affected areas.
