The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced Sunday that it has prepositioned mobility assets in areas along the projected path of Super Typhoon “Uwan.”
LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the mobilization and staging of land vehicles follow the directive of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, in response to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s order for all government agencies to be on full alert and to ensure a unified government response.
“As instructed, our personnel are ready to augment all the government efforts to immediately extend assistance to the affected residents. Nasa super typhoon na ang category ng bagyong ito kaya inaasahan natin ang matinding epekto nito sa ating mga kababayan,” Mendoza said.
“Our goal is to immediately provide the assistance because this is what our President Marcos wanted all government agencies to do — to make the government presence felt before, during and immediately after the weather disturbance,” he added.
Mendoza earlier directed all LTFRB Regional Directors to mobilize as many land assets as possible for disaster response, amid concerns over the potential impact of “Uwan.”
Under a DOTr memorandum, agencies were instructed to brace for the adverse effects of the typhoon, with the LTFRB specifically tasked to deploy trucks, buses, and other land vehicles for the transport of relief goods and personnel.
Mendoza also ordered regional directors to issue travel advisories discouraging non-essential travel to areas expected to be affected by the typhoon.
Storm Signal No. 5 was already raised in parts of the Bicol Region and Quezon, while several areas across Luzon and the Visayas remain under Signal Nos. 3 and 2. Parts of Catanduanes and the Bicol region have experienced flooding and storm surges.
“Uwan” is expected to make landfall either in Central or Northern Luzon, with PAGASA warning of heavy rainfall across Luzon and some parts of the Visayas over the next three days.
