Monterrazas de Cebu, the high-end development fronted by celebrity Slater Young, generated more than P1.1 billion in combined revenues across 2023 and 2024.
In 2024, developer 8990 Holdings reported that Monterrazas de Cebu earned P703.3 million in 2023 and P476.5 million in 2024. The project shifted from a net profit of P153.6 million in 2023 to a net loss of P22.4 million last year.
8990 Holdings, Inc. is a major property developer known for low-cost housing communities, medium-rise condominiums under the Urban Deca Homes brand, and high-rise developments under Urban Deca Towers.
Monterrazas de Cebu spans over 200 hectares, making it the largest continuous mountain development in Cebu City, supposedly offering wide views of Cebu, Mactan, and Bohol. The project drew widespread scrutiny after catastrophic floods brought by Typhoon Tino resulted in 204 confirmed casualties.
Slater Young, the former Pinoy Big Brother winner-turned-industry partner and developer for Monterrazas, previously assured concerned netizens in 2023 that the project would not worsen runoff or erosion during heavy rains.
“This is just a small portion of the mountain,” Young said. “I wouldn’t have put my face on there if I didn’t believe in the project.”
On Friday, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced that it had ordered an impartial, full-scale review of the Monterrazas de Cebu development, emphasizing its mandate to protect communities and enforce environmental laws. The agency said it will be looking into whether or not the development complied with is Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) – issued by the DENR through Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).
Neither 8990 Holdings nor Young had issued a public statement as of press time.
