European payment service provider MultiSafepay has appointed Filipina executive Rachelle Alexis Lim as its new chief executive officer (CEO).

In a release issued Friday, 7 November, the company said Lim will lead MultiSafepay’s overall business strategy and operations, serving “a fast-growing client base of SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) in Europe, leveraging innovative solutions to drive their inclusive growth.”

She will also join the company’s board of directors, pending approval from the Netherlands’ central bank, De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB).

MultiSafepay, based in Amsterdam, provides a unified platform for online, in-person (POS), and omnichannel payment processing.

Founded in 1999, it currently serves more than 20,000 SMEs and enables businesses to accept over 40 local and international payment methods through a single contract and integration.

After becoming a subsidiary of Singapore-based global fintech group Ant International in 2024, MultiSafepay nearly doubled its transaction volume and expanded its merchant base by more than 25 percent.

Fintech veteran

“Rachelle is a fintech veteran, she has been instrumental in establishing Antom’s merchant payment services across European and UK markets. Through strategic business initiatives, including a cornerstone collaboration with MultiSafepay, she has significantly expanded the company’s presence in Europe and fueled strong overall growth,” said MultiSafepay founder and outgoing CEO Olaf Geurs, who will remain as chief technical officer and continue to sit on the board.

Lim earned her Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering from Ateneo de Manila University in 2004 and has since built an extensive career in financial technology.

As executive director at 2C2P, she drove regional expansion by scaling operations and forging strategic partnerships in the Philippines and across Asia.

Earlier, as head of Products for Global Payments Asia Pacific, she led major product launches across POS, eCommerce and integrated solutions.

Empowering SMEs across Europe

“I am thrilled to be appointed chief executive officer of MultiSafepay,” Lim said. “We will focus on empowering SMEs across Europe with the innovative yet simplified payment solutions MultiSafepay is recognised for, which will help drive inclusive growth for businesses of all sizes.”

Now part of Antom, Ant International’s merchant payment and digitization services arm, MultiSafepay serves over 20,000 businesses in sectors such as eCommerce, hospitality, retail and entertainment across the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Spain.

Ant International, headquartered in Singapore, acquired MultiSafepay in July 2024 and has since accelerated the company’s growth and innovation pipeline.

Lim said her leadership will center on “accelerating innovation tailored for the European SMEs they are dedicated to empowering, scaling our business with integrity at every step, and creating a lasting, positive impact in the communities we serve.”

“From my beginnings in Manila, I have always believed that the most significant breakthroughs emerge where cutting-edge technology meets an exceptional, passionate team. This belief has been reinforced as I led teams across Asia and Europe, and this will also be the foundation for our journey ahead as we focus on our mission,” she added.
