Filipino stamp collectors are celebrating a triple milestone this November with a three-day philatelic exhibition at Robinsons Manila from 7 to 9 November. The event commemorates the 31st National Stamp Collecting Month (NSCM), the 258th Postal Anniversary of PHLPost, and the 75th Founding Anniversary of the APO Philatelic Society Members.
This year’s showcase features the Philippine Mythical Creatures II Stamp Collection, highlighting designs of the Manananggal, Santelmo, Bakunawa, and Sarimanok conceptualized and illustrated by artist Ryman Albuladora.
Mounted by the APO Philatelic Society led by Jimmy Ang, the exhibit was also attended by representatives from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Albuladora shared that the concept was developed to spark interest in Filipino folklore among younger audiences and inspire new collectors to discover philately.
“The concept was to show the known and unknown mythical creatures, those that are not widely known, last year, we had tiyanak,” he said, noting that the first edition of the series launched in 2021. He also revealed that he created the artwork “for free,” explaining, “It’s not just recognized in the Philippines but it also reaches an international audience.”
Arlene Labao, Chief of Post Shop Philately and Museum Division, noted the importance of the exhibit in bringing together generations of enthusiasts.
“Events like this gather the young and the expert generation of philatelists,” Labao said, adding that collectors aged 70 and above remain active in the hobby.
Collectors and visitors may view and purchase stamps from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the third floor of Robinsons Manila.
