Manila LGU donates P1-M to Cebu

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Wednesday announced a P1 million donation to the provincial government of Cebu and urged residents to contribute to relief efforts following the devastation caused by typhoon “Tino.”

In a Facebook Live address, Domagoso expressed solidarity with the people of Cebu and other areas hit by the storm, which the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported had left at least 66 people dead, 10 injured, and 26 missing across Visayas and Mindanao as of Wednesday morning.

A staggering 49 fatalities were reported in Cebu alone due to floods, landslides, and fallen debris.

“It is heartbreaking that in Cebu, they have barely recovered from the recent earthquake. Now, they have been battered by a typhoon,” the mayor said.

Domagoso cited Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro’s assessment that typhoon “Tino” was “worse than Odette” in terms of rainfall, noting floodwaters rose dramatically within minutes.

“This ‘Tino’ really caused severe flooding,” he quoted Baricuatro as saying.

Domagoso extended Manila’s condolences to families who lost loved ones and assured Cebuanos that the capital city stands with them in grief and recovery.

“The least thing that we can do is to share what we have, to be a good fellow to our fellow citizens, fellow Filipinos,” he said, announcing that he had signed the release of the P1 million donation to help jumpstart Cebu’s relief and rehabilitation efforts.
