A fire gutted five homes in the Silverio Compound in Purok 1, Barangay San Isidro, early Sunday morning, displacing more than 30 individuals.
The blaze, which reached the first alarm, started around 5 a.m. Sunday. It was brought under control by over 20 fire trucks shortly after 6 a.m.
One of the residents, Enrique Calin, claimed the fire was caused by a neighbor’s unattended candle after the neighbor’s electricity was cut off.
“The cause was really the candle. Since all the houses here are made of light materials, nothing was left, even our means of livelihood, it was completely gone,” Calin said in Filipino.
Bureau of Fire Protection-Parañaque chief of Operations Fire Senior Inspector Mark Tuto said authorities are verifying the alleged cause of the fire.
