The calendar has now moved to November, bringing the nationwide rally on Bonifacio Day closer—an event expected to draw bigger mobilizations and louder calls for accountability from corrupt officials.
Various organizations that joined the 21 September “Baha sa Luneta” protest are planning to make the upcoming demonstration even larger.
As part of the buildup for the nationwide protest, several rallies are scheduled throughout the month. Weekly Black Friday protests on 7, 14, 21 and 28 November are expected to take place in various areas.
In a recent forum, Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot (KBKK) said that more protests are expected this month.
Working People Against Corruption—a coalition of labor unions and groups, including BPO and entertainment industry workers—is also preparing a protest against corruption on November 14.
University groups such as the University of the Philippines (UP) and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) are planning a protest on 17 November, following the celebration of International Students’ Day.
On 21 November, the Health Alliance for Democracy is urging healthcare workers to hold silent protests in their workplaces by wearing shirts bearing their calls as part of the “Health Workers’ Day of Action.”
Meanwhile, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive for government agencies and infrastructure projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to reduce construction material costs by 50 percent, the minority bloc emphasized that such reforms alone won’t stop corruption and called for the abolition of the pork barrel system.
