Rhett ramps up Red Charity Gala

Agile Zamora

Yoohoo, I got us a table at the The Manila Peninsula! To be specific, a table at the 14th Red Charity Gala, which is one of my favorite social events of the year. So take a seat and read along for my firsthand scoop! This year, its proceeds will benefit causes such as the victims of the devastating earthquake in Cebu. It also featured a red “haute” headliner, the beloved Rhett Eala.

Its launch in 2009 care of the fabulous Tessa Prieto and Kaye Tinga was initially for the Assumption HS ’81 Foundation, Hope for Lupus Foundation and the Philippine Red Cross. Through the years, it cemented itself as an amplifier of Philippine fashion and by extension, supporting the livelihood of hundreds of thousands that work in its industry.

That night, Tessa brought up the energy before we started the silent auction. We saw some high-value pieces like an Omega Constellation 36mm watch and an emerald brooch from Ivan Acuna’s Platinum Series that got swiped up by generous takers. Gorgeous pieces for a personal collection, for sure! Next up was the main auction, which brought in the biggest bids, the greatest being P1.5 million for a masterpiece by Jigger Cruz. Talk about fiery red passion for helping!

We then moved to the Rigodon Ballroom where we were greeted by the impeccable set design by Gino Gonzalez with a larger-than-life chandelier and a dramatic backdrop for the main event: Rhett Eala’s collection. Ponchos, hand-painted Tipos del Pais prints, structured dresses, fringe, feathers and more! We saw so much beautiful designs that I know would just make a woman feel fabulous wearing it. Look good, feel comfortable — that’s the Eala signature!

The biggest congrats are in order for the lovely ladies who started it all, Tessa and Kaye, making the Red Charity Gala the institution that it is! Plus big thanks to Bench for presenting with Athaland and Globe Platinum, and sponsors DiaGold, Emirates, Jewelmer, Nustar Online, SM Supermalls and The Peninsula. Last but not the least, to all the dolled-up ladies and distinguished gents who made this the surpassing success that it was! I look forward to the next incredible designer for next year, and the incredible support that will surely come with it. Cheers!
