Mariposa Mews, a residential development by Makiling Mews Corp., has officially received its LEED for Homes Gold Certification, making it the first and only condominium in the Philippines to earn this distinction from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The certification, unveiled during a ceremony in Quezon City, recognizes Mariposa Mews’ commitment to global standards of energy efficiency, environmental design, and sustainable construction.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Homes Gold certification, administered by the USGBC, is awarded to residential projects that meet mandatory prerequisites and accumulate a high number of voluntary credits across categories such as energy efficiency, water use reduction, indoor environmental quality, materials and resources, and sustainable site development.

“This milestone is more than a recognition. It is a reaffirmation of our vision to build homes that care for people and the planet. Through Mariposa Mews, we’re proving that sustainability and modern living can thrive together, setting a new benchmark for responsible development in the Philippines,” said Gerret Lim, Managing Director of Makiling Mews Corp.

Representing Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, Councilor Atty. Vincent Belmonte praised the development for aligning with the city’s climate goals.

“The vision of Mariposa Mews resonates deeply with that of the Quezon City Government to create spaces that are inclusive, innovative, and environmentally responsible. As a proud member of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, Quezon City has made it a priority to integrate sustainability into every facet of governance,” he said.

He added that the development “perfectly aligns with our Climate Action Plan and our city’s commitment to help reduce global carbon emissions. More importantly, Mariposa Mews embodies a powerful message that design can drive transformation and that sustainability must be at the heart of every endeavor.”

The ceremony included insights from Makiling Mews Managing Director Lim on the project’s sustainability journey, highlighting eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems, water-saving technologies, and healthy indoor air design.

To close the program, Jinggoy Noble, CEO of Terra Solutions Realty, lauded the partnership among the developer, city government, and community.

“Mariposa Mews is more than a home. It is a movement toward building a greener, smarter, and more sustainable future for Filipino families. We are proud to represent a project that doesn’t just build spaces but builds change,” Noble said.

The project’s LEED Gold certification positions Mariposa Mews as a trailblazer in green architecture and signals the property sector’s growing shift toward climate-resilient and environmentally responsible development.
