Comelec suspends voter registration for Undas 2025

Eliana Lacap

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced the suspension of voter registration activities nationwide from 30 October to 2 November 2025 in observance of Undas.

“Bilang paggunita sa Undas, suspendido ang voter registration mula tanghali ng 30 October 2025 hanggang 2 November 2025,” the poll body said in an advisory released Tuesday.

(“In observance of Undas, voter registration is suspended from noon of 30 October 2025 until 2 November 2025.”)

“Kasama ng buong bansa, iginagalang natin ang alaala ng mga yumao na. Sa pamamagitan ng panalangin, pag-aalay, at pagninilay-nilay, pinapanatili nating buhay ang kanilang espiritu sa ating mga puso. Nawa'y makatagpo ng kapayapaan at liwanag ang kanilang mga kaluluwa,” the Comelec added.

(“Together with the entire country, we honor the memory of the departed. Through prayer, offerings, and reflection, we keep their spirit alive in our hearts. May their souls find peace and light.”)

The temporary halt follows the resumption of nationwide voter registration for the 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), which began 20 October 2025 and will continue until 18 May 2026.

Bangsamoro areas temporarily excluded

Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia earlier said registration in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) remains suspended until after the region’s parliamentary elections.

“Hindi muna kami magpaparehistro mula 21 October sa Bangsamoro. Ire-resume namin ang registration ng Bangsamoro after ng parliamentary elections,” Garcia said. (“We will not register voters from 21 October in Bangsamoro. We will resume Bangsamoro registration after the parliamentary elections.”)

Registration details

Voter registration is open Mondays to Sundays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at local Comelec offices and designated satellite registration sites.

The poll body is accepting all types of applications, including:

  • New registration

  • Transfer of records

  • Change of name or civil status

  • Correction of entries

  • Reactivation of registration records

  • Inclusion or reinstatement of names in the voters’ list

According to Comelec data, 144,907 individuals registered from 20 to 26 October, with 130,720 applying for the barangay elections and 14,187 for the Sangguniang Kabataan polls. Comelec is targeting 1.4 million new registrants nationwide for the 2026 BSKE.

Polls postponed to 2026

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. earlier signed a law postponing the BSKE from 1 December 2025 to the first Monday of November 2026, and every four years thereafter.

The postponement aims to align the electoral calendar with other government activities and give Comelec ample time to prepare for the polls.
