The League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Tarlac Chapter has thrown its unanimous support behind Tarlac City Mayor Susan Yap in her legal fight against a Commission on Elections (Comelec) ruling that disqualified her from office.
This comes as the league’s members signed Resolution No. 4, Series of 2025, on Friday, affirming their support for Yap as the duly elected local chief executive.
The resolution appeals to the Comelec en banc to reconsider its decision, urging the body to prioritize the “sovereign will of the people of Tarlac City.”
To recall, the Comelec had previously ruled that Yap-Sulit was ineligible to be elected as mayor after finding she did not meet the mandatory residency requirement in Barangay Tibag, Tarlac City, annulling her proclamation.
The case stemmed from a petition filed by Tibag barangay chairperson Jay-Ar Navarro and others, who argued that Yap-Sulit made “material misrepresentation” by listing a warehouse, not a residential property, as her address on her Certificate of Candidacy.
The Comelec also ordered the filing of a criminal complaint against the mayor for a violation of the Omnibus Election Code.
Yap, who served as Tarlac governor from 2016 to 2025 and represented the province’s 2nd District from 2010 to 2016, has not yet received an official copy of the Comelec order.
