Port cranes run on battery

Cargohandling emissions and diesel use at NorthPort have been reduced by 49 percent as six of its gantry cranes (RTGs) now run on battery. The domestic cargo port’s equipment are now hybrid with their smaller generators and high-capacity, liquid-cooled battery systems helping lower its average annual carbon emission by half, from 2,186 tons to 1,109 tons. 

The ICTSI-operated NorthPort is also awaiting delivery of four new Mitsui hybrid RTGs in the last quarter.
