No more guessing night or day

People blinded by cataract also suffer from the stress of restlessness as they would get up in the middle of the night.

“She could not sleep because she did not anymore know whether it was night or day,” Onofre Corot Jr. said of her mother Delia when she was still blinded by cataracts.

Consequently, Delia lost a lot of weight from the lack of fitful sleep.

Learning from a relative about the free cataract removal surgery at the Tzu Chi Eye Center (TCEC), the son brought her there and she obliged.

Under the expert hands of TCEC volunteer ophthalmologist Dr. Jessica Daza, Delia successfully regained her eyesight.

“I will be able to do my chores at home again and go to the toilet on my own!” Delia, her face wet with tears, said during an interview with Tzu Chi Medical Foundation Philippines, which run the TCEC in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

Aside from finally seeing her children and grandchildren, whom she used to recognize only by voice, Delia will finally be able to sleep better now, her son said.
