Water for Cebu quake victims

Prime Infra Foundation (PIF) heard the cries for drinking water from victims of earthquake in northern Cebu and responded by launching the Agapay: WASH in Emergencies.

The initiative saw the Manila Water Foundation, Manila Water Philippine Ventures (MWPV), Prime Water Solutions (PWS) and PIF organize teams of volunteers to prepare and distribute 2,000 units of five-gallon potable water to affected communities.

PIF and PWS also provided ready-to-eat food packs for affected families on 6 October. The relief efforts covered 815 households in Barangay Luyang, 755 households in Barangay Victoria and 430 households in Barangay Kinawahan in the Municipality of San Remigio, one of the hardest hit areas of the magnitude 6.9 quake on 30 September.

A total of 10,000 gallons of much-needed potable water also were handed over in the three villages.

Some 2,000 households received water from the Agapay: WASH in Emergencies in coordination with the Cebu City local government led by Mayor Nestor Archival, the Cebu City police, and the Philippine Army (PA).

The effort was also supported by volunteers from Cebu Water, PA and Barangay Binaliw.

Aside from delivering aid to earthquake victims, PIF and PWS Cebu also distributed relief packs with rice, canned goods, and toiletries to residents of Barangay Binaliw who were affected by flooding caused by recent heavy rains. 

Prime Infra has presence in the province through PWS Cebu, which operates a materials recovery facility in Binaliw, processing up to 1,000 tons of municipal solid waste daily. 

On the other hand, Manila Water operates in Cebu through Cebu Water, a subsidiary of MWPV.
