OVP ready to assist Davao Oriental quake victims

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) announced on Friday that its Southern Mindanao satellite office is closely monitoring the situation after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental at 9:43 a.m.

“We are currently on standby to assist any local government unit in providing relief to evacuees, should the need arise,” the OVP said in an official statement.

Vice President Sara Duterte’s office also urged those affected by the earthquake to seek psychological first aid to help alleviate anxiety and fear, particularly among children who may be more vulnerable.

The OVP reminded the public to prepare and keep emergency bags accessible in anticipation of possible aftershocks.

“We will continue to pray for the Philippines and anticipate coordination efforts to support local communities,” the statement added.

The earthquake’s intensity was felt as Intensity V in Davao City and Intensity IV in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.

This recent quake follows a deadly magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu on September 30, leaving 74 people dead, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. A magnitude 4.4 earthquake was also recorded in Pugo, La Union on Thursday morning.
