The Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the Department of Health (RESU-DOH) revealed Tuesday the increase in leptospirosis cases in the region.

The cases climbed to 188 from January to August 2025, with 20 fatalities.

RESU Head Dr. Eugenia Mercedes Canal said that most of the cases involved men, with farmers topping the list of affected occupations.

This is 68% higher than the 112 cases recorded in the same period in 2024.
