Missing man at Candon sea found dead

ALILEM, Ilocos Sur — The body of a man who went missing last week was found last Monday, more than 60 kilometers from his home, floating in the high seas off Candon City.

Police Chief Maj. Joseph Bandolay identified the victim as Mike Lagdao, a resident of Sitio Tibunek. Lagdao’s father positively identified the body.

According to Bandolay, Lagdao disappeared on 8 August after leaving on his motorcycle to pick up a relative. The relative had already arrived home, but Lagdao never returned.

“We were able to recover first the motorcycle used by the victim,” Bandolay said. “So a massive search was conducted by the police, local and barangay officials until residents in the area reported to us that they have seen a floating body along the high seas, 15 miles away from the seashore in Candon City.”

Bandolay said the man likely fell into the deep Bakun River unnoticed.

The municipal government’s Facebook page thanked the numerous individuals and agencies that assisted in the search, including the Philippine Coast Guard, local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and residents who reported seeing the body.
