Barangay San Dionisio in Parañaque City and Solaire Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Solaire Resort, are reaping the success of their urban gardening project called Food Always in the Home (Faith) Garden.
Every other month, the garden in the village cultivated by a team of volunteers from Solaire Resort yields vegetables that are given for free to local residents, providing them an additional source of nutritious food. The garden yields up to 30 kilos up of eggplants, lettuce, mustasa, ampalaya, pechay, tomatoes, malunggay and hot chilis. There are also fruits like Indian mangoes and saba.
Solaire Cares and Barangay San Dionisio plan to expand the garden and put up a community kitchen where its produce can be made into nutritious meals, according to Solaire Cares.
Faith Garden beneficiaries are very thankful for the program as the health and nutrition of family members are addressed.
Meanwhile, the garden has revived its tilapia aquaponics project. With the fish tank and aquaponics system in place, fingerlings were introduced, and these are expected to mature in 4 to 6 months, according to a Facebook post of Barangay San Dionisio.
Grown tilapias will be distributed to the community, benefiting the residents of Barangay San Dionisio.
The urban gardening initiative contributes to food security and environmental awareness in the community.
