A total of 215 inmates at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Palawan have applied for executive clemency from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) announced Friday.

BuCor director general Gregorio Catapang Jr. said the inmates underwent psychological examinations from 22 to 25 July as part of the requirements set by the Board of Pardons and Parole.

“This initiative was carried out as part of the requirements set by the Board of Pardons and Parole (BPP) for individuals seeking executive clemency,” Catapang said.

The agency said the examinations — conducted by a team of registered psychometricians from the New Bilibid Prison — are a crucial step in evaluating an inmate’s eligibility for potential release.

Executive clemency can include reprieve, absolute pardon, conditional pardon or a commutation of sentence which can be granted by President Marcos.
