Japan’s Foreign Ministry aids Filipino-Japanese in citizenship bid

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has arranged a visit to Japan for a Filipino-Japanese descendant as part of its ongoing efforts to help them acquire Japanese citizenship.

Jose Takei left for Japan on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines. Before his departure, Takei met with Ambassador Endo Kazuya and was sent off at Ninoy Aquino International Airport by Deputy Chief of Mission Minister Matsuda.

The embassy said the visit is the start of a broader initiative, and the Japanese government plans to arrange similar visits for other Filipino-Japanese descendants as needed.
